About Rain Pure Mountain Spring Water

RAIN Pure Mountain Spring Water, a sustainable beverage producer known for its aluminum water bottles, sought to accelerate its packaging throughput while reducing physical strain on employees who were manually palletizing heavy cases. After identifying labor-intensive bottlenecks, RAIN partnered with Robotiq to deploy the PE20 palletizing system featuring a collaborative robot from Universal Robots.

[Manual palletizing] was an ergonomically unfriendly task. These cases are 30 pounds when they come off the line, at six cases per minute. We had two operators doing that job, and on a shift, they might lift a hundred thousand pounds. Those operators now have forklift certifications and have been reallocated to other areas of the plant where they were needed.

The Problem

The company faced several pressing issues:

  • Manual palletizing bottlenecks: Rain previously relied on manual end-of-line palletizing, with employees stacking corrugated cases of aluminum water bottles by hand. They were dealing with repetitive lifting and stacking in a space-constrained environment, risking injuries and inefficiencies.
  • Complex SKU management: Multiple product lines meant higher chances of mistakes when stacking or labeling. As the number of SKUs grew, so did the physical strain on the team.
  • Facility constraints: Limited floor space made large, traditional palletizing equipment unfeasible.

The Solution

Robotiq provided Rain Pure Mountain Spring Water with a compact and cost-effective palletizing solution built around the PE20 Palletizing Solution. Its space-saving design fit seamlessly into RAIN’s existing layout, while integrated safety scanner—allowed for easy programming and minimal guarding requirements. Thanks to the system’s small footprint, quick lead time, and user-friendly setup, RAIN was able to deploy the solution rapidly and start seeing results right away.

Beyond being cost-effective and quick to deploy, the solution helped Rain boost operational efficiency while also giving its existing team the opportunity to take on more advanced, value-added roles.
